Minor consent laws allow students under the age of 18 to access mental health services without parent or guardian approval. These laws help ensure young people can seek the support they need during critical or sensitive times. The age for minor consent varies from state to state— please check your local laws to confirm this information.
Minor consent referrals require the utmost confidentiality. To avoid unintentional follow-up to a student's family, icons have been added to clearly indicate a minor consent referral.
Under the “Consented” column you can clearly identify a minor consent referral with an icon of a person with a shield. Hover your cursor over the shield to get a detailed description of what the icon means.
COMING JANUARY 8, 2025
In some cases, your minor consent student may opt-out from including their guardian in their care. This means their guardian can not be contacted. Hover your cursor over the cell phone with a line through it to easily identify whether the student gives permission to contact their guardian.
Please note: 18+ referrals will have this icon as well.
